Is Weligama right for you?
Weligama bay is long, flat and shallow, which is why the surf schools are here and why it suits families with small children better than anywhere else on this coast. It is also busy and built up, and nobody should arrive expecting an empty beach.
Mirissa is around the headland: a smaller bay, the whale watching harbour, and the coast’s liveliest evening. Both our ten-night routes finish along this stretch.
Good for
Families, first-time surfers, whale watching, and two flat nights at the end of a trip.
Not ideal for
Quiet and empty. This is the most developed part of the south coast.
Worth knowing
Whale watching runs roughly November to April. Outside that, the boats mostly stay in.
