Is Nuwara Eliya right for you?
The British built Nuwara Eliya as a hill station to escape the heat, and it still looks the part, with a racecourse, a golf course and hedges. The town is not the reason to come; the estates around it are.
This is the coldest place most visitors will go in Sri Lanka. Evenings drop close to single figures and few hotels heat their rooms, which catches people out after a week on the coast.
Good for
Tea, cold air, and a real change of climate halfway through a trip.
Not ideal for
Swimming, warm evenings, and anyone travelling with only beach clothes.
Worth knowing
Bring a jumper, and ask us whether your hotel has heating. Most do not.
