Earl's Regency sits in the Mahaweli valley a short drive out of Kandy, which is the trade-off worth understanding: you get space, a large pool and quiet nights, and you drive in for the Temple of the Tooth rather than walking.
It is the hotel we use most often for the two Kandy nights on the whole-island route, because families and couples both settle into it easily.
